Gearing up for 2020--on MLK day

I'm honoring the legacy of Dr. King by committing to Sen Harris' 2020 presidential bid.

Like most of you, I took a vacation from activism following the 2018 election. It was great to partake in the blue wave of democrats--and democracy--successfully taking back the house on Election Night. I felt joy, pride, and relief that at least one house of the US congress will do everything in its power to push for a progressive agenda and hold Trump accountable for everything illegal and immoral thing he has done in the past few years.

I prepared for and enjoyed Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas and New Year's. I spent time with friends and family. I even cleaned my house and worked hard on my continuing medical education credits. But, today, I am returning to activism.

I am honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by pledging to work for Sen Kamala Harris. Sen Harris announced her candidacy for presidency on this cold symbolic day, and #Imwithher.

Pundits may say we should choose the person who can beat Trump in 2020. I say we should choose the person who can bring just the right kind of leadership back to the office of the president of the United States. With her fearlessness, her experience and her deep knowledge of social justice, I am sure that Kamala Harris can do both: she can beat Trump and go on to serve as the president we need to heal from the Trump years, repair our standing with our allies and move forward as a country.

Here's the email I sent to her campaign today:

Dear Campaign Managers,

I am writing because I am ready to start volunteering for Kamala's campaign.

I can help in 3 areas:

1. I live in Chicago, so I can drive up to Iowa and canvass for Kamala before the caucuses.  I am a very experienced canvassers, and as a mid-westerner, I know how to talk to Iowans.

2. I am a physician, have worked in public health for more than 20 years, and I can help with any health policy questions.  I have also worked in the field of addictions medicine, and am happy to help craft health policy, in general, and also addictions medicine policy.

3. My husband and I have donated heavily to Obama and the Democratic party in the past, and we can help bundle donors for Kamala.

Kamala is fearless, honest and super-smart, making her the best candidate for 2020.  I am with her all the way, and can't wait to start working to elect her.

Please see my attached resume.

I look forward to working with you!

best wishes,

Sarah Lovinger, MD
